You’ve put imagination, time and effort into coming up with award-winning costumes for you, your kids, and your dog.  You have spent hours decorating your house to rival Disneyland’s haunted mansion.  You’ve planned and carved a funky pumpkin worthy of a magazine cover.  Everything is in place for an epic Halloween…now you just have to celebrate it!
  • Celebrate with your sweetie: Ghost Hunt at the Del.  One of America’s most haunted hotels is right here on our little Island.  Indeed, the ghost of Kate Morgan, who died at the hotel in 1892, has drawn the attention of paranormal investigators due to reported incidents of flickering lights, temperature changes, moving items, electronics turning off or on by themselves, floating objects, voices, and even sightings of Kate herself.  Have dinner at the Babcock & Story bar and a frozen treat at Moo Time (or a liquid treat at ENO) then stay close together and do some ghost hunting of your own after dark…if you dare.  1500 Ocean Ave. 619.435.6611
  • Celebrate with the whole family: Haunted House.  Costume up and take the family to “the scariest show in town” with adventures and activities for all ages “under the big top” for the Community Center’s Haunted Circus.  Party it up with jump houses, crafts, carnival games, and food at the Halloween Happening from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. then bravely make your way through the “Extreme Haunted House”   Oct. 25, 3:30 – 9 p.m. (3:30-4:30 p.m. for preschoolers, 4:30-5:30 p.m. for children, 7-9 p.m. for teens and adults) 1845 Strand Way 619.522.7342
  • Celebrate with friends: Hallo-Wine and Spirits Party.  Drink, dance, and have a frightfully fun night at the Del’s annual adult-only costume party complete with wine tastings, adult trick-or-treating, a costume contest, and scary good eats.  Oct. 26, 7 p.m.-12 a.m.  $125. 1500 Ocean Ave. 619.522.8490
  • Celebrate with the kids: Pumpkin Painting.   Spend a fall afternoon at the Farmer’s Market and pick out the perfect pumpkin to decorate with scary sneers or toothy smiles.  Oct. 22, 3:00-5:00 p.m.  Coronado Ferry Landing (www.coronadoferrylandingshops.com/events-sandiego-coronado)
  • Celebrate on Halloween: Trick-or-Treating.  Downtown Coronado “goes ghostly” on Halloween evening with shops handing out candy to all the little costumed cuties, making Orange Avenue a fun, safe, and easy place for children to trick-or-treat.  Oct. 31, 3:30-6:00 p.m.  Then, for a real fright, trick-or-treat at the haunted houses along Margarita Ave…at your own risk!
  • Mainland Faves: Halloween Fun.  Looking for something unique to do off-island?  Kids will love the Spooky Sleepover at the San Diego Zoo where costumed kids trick or treat among slithery, scaly and strange creatures, are entertained around the campfire with ghost stories, and then take a night prowl through the dark zoo before crawling into their tents at haunted Camp Timbuktu. Oct. 19 & 26, $139 adults; $119 kids. (www.sandiegozoo.org/zoo/special/spooky_sleepover 619-718-3000. Grown up kids will get a thrill and shrill out of the exciting zombie hunt after dark on Fridays, Saturdays in October and Halloween night at The Paintball Park at Camp Pendleton. 7:30 – 10:30 p.m., $30. (www.thepaintballpark.com/play/haunted-trail-zombie-hunt 866.985.4932. More grown up Halloween fun can be found at the award winning South Coast Winery, which hosts Haunted Winery tours through the vineyards and cellars with spooky surprises and savory sips along the way. Oct. 26-31, 4:30-5:30 p.m., $45. 34843 Rancho California Rd. 951.587.9463 ext. 7262

Have fun!
