Even though the days are still sunny and beautiful, the evenings come earlier and bring a chill to the air that calls for warm, rich fares.  Here’s where to find delicious dishes on the Island made especially to satisfy your fall comfort cravings.

  • Tahitian Squash Soup & Truffled Grilled Cheese Sandwich @ Leroy’s Kitchen + Lounge.  This is not your average soup and sandwich!  Leroy’s serves up a creamy, warm and super savory fall squash soup paired with a gourmet grilled sandwich stuffed full of truffled cheeses, beech mushrooms, tomatoes and spinach. Add a glass of malbec and it’s the perfect fall dinner.  M’m! M’m! Good!    $12 | 1015 Orange Ave. | 619.437.6087

  • Homemade  Kabocha Cheesecake @ Saiko Sushi.    Kabocha is the Japanese equivalent of a squash and Saiko Sushi mixes it with a creamy cheesecake and serves it up on a crushed graham cracker and fortune cookie crust to create a tasty – and unique – substitute for pumpkin pie!  $7 | 1310 Orange. Ave. | (619) 437-0611

  • Mary’s Natural Roasted Chicken Pot Pie @ The Tavern.  Chef Itze’ Behar beautifully blends fresh, organic vegetables and herbs grown at Suzie’s Farm in San Diego in a creamy veloute sauce, then tops it off with a homemade puff pastry crust to seal in all the tasty flavors.  The quintessential fall fare.    $15 | 1310 Orange Ave. | (619) 437-0611

  • Cappellacci di Zucca @ Vigilucci’s.  All the flavors of fall are stuffed into this favored Italian dish.  Homemade pasta is filled with butternut squash, walnuts, ricotta and Parmigiano, then topped with brown butter, sage and a touch of Marinara.  Add a glass of vino for comfort food at its finest.   $23 | 1300 Orange Ave. | (619) 522-0946
  • Chicken Chili @ Cafe 1134.  “Cold” days call for chili and Cafe 1134 serves a yummy, chunky chicken chili with a baguette for sopping up every last drop.  They also offer vegan chili!  $3.95 | 1134 Orange Ave. | (619) 437-1134
  • Bonus: Fall Brew.  Stella Artois Cidre on tap @ bars throughout the Island.    Order up a glass of fall with Stella’s newly released gluten-free Cidre, which is crafted with fresh, hand picked apples.  Ahhhhh
