Happy New Year!  If one of your resolutions is to get fit in 2014, you are in the right place.  Coronado offers lots of venues to get – and stay – fit, from fantastic walking/biking paths and an amazing recreation center to state of the art gyms, outdoor exercise equipment, and, of course, the beach.  And, since we have gorgeous weather year-round, you can shape up in the sunshine.  It doesn’t get much better than that!

(If you’d prefer to get your sweat on in a gym, check back next week for my 5 favorite gym workouts on Coronado.)

  • Cardio Tennis.  600* cal/hour.  Get your heart pumping while working your arms, shoulders and back muscles on the courts at Coronado Tennis Center. The hour class mixes cardio drills with tennis skills for a total body workout…all while playing a fun game with an encouraging instructor and bumping music. (Even if you can’t play tennis very well you’ll get a great workout and have a ton of fun…I did!)  $20 |1501 Glorietta Blvd. | 619.522.2650 |  www.coronadotenniscenter.com.
  • Stand Up Paddle Boarding Boot Camp.  600 cal/hour.  Take your workout to the water for a unique and intense total body sweat session.  Paddle from beach to beach along the bay, stopping to do cardio blasts of burpees, squat jumps, lunge walks, etc. in the sand before hopping back on your board to work your core, shoulders, back and triceps as you paddle to the next beach. 1 hour | 619.888.7686 | www.SUPCoronado.com |
  • Cycling. 470 cal/hour.  Coronado is home to the Bayshore Bikeway, a 9-mile paved path running from the Ferry Landing along the sparkling bay and down the Silver Strand with views of the Pacific Ocean all the way to Imperial Beach.  Rent everything you need for a great ride at Holland’s Bicycles then get out there and get your peddles – and heart – pumping! | 619.435.3153|  www.hollandsbicycles.com |
  • Swimming Laps. 475 cal/hour.  What better way to get in shape for swimsuit season than in the pool?  Work your chest, back, arms, abs, legs and shoulders in the lanes at Coronado’s fabulous bayside public pool.   $4 per day for residents; $10 per day for nonresidents | 619.435.2464 | Pool Info
  • Golf. 305 cal/hour.  Grab your sticks and walk the 18 holes at the Coronado Municipal Course to work your abs, arms, back and shoulders…and your swing!  With incredible bay views you’ll feel more like you’re vacationing than exercising.   $30 weekdays | 2000 Visalia Row| 619.435.3122 | www.golfcoronado.com

Enjoy!
