At this year’s Coronado MainStreet garden party, more than 400 Coronadans turned out, all of whom support the ideals of MainStreet to keep its business district vibrant and healthy and to preserve its historic buildings.
The party was held in early September in the backyard garden of the historic W.A. Gunn house, often referred to as “Coronado’s Castle by the Sea.” The Spanish Revival home, recently purchased by the party’s hosts, Sean and Maria Cunningham, was designed in 1924 by noted architect Richard Requa.
Delicious appetizers were provided by chefs and staff from the Hotel del Coronado (the event’s major sponsor), Mistral at Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Miguel’s, The Brigantine, Boney’s Bayside Market and the new Bluewater Boathouse.
Food was also supplied by Leroy’s, Crown Bistro, Bistro d’Asia, Café 1134, Swaddee Thai, Costa Azul, Peohe’s, Spiro’s Gyros, Tartine, and Robbins’ Rum Cakes. More than 70 items were featured on the silent auction table and raised money for the 16 Orange Avenue median gardens, designed by founding MainStreet board member Maryly Benzian and maintained by her and MainStreet board member Caroline Murray.
