A Fun Thanksgiving Weekend on the Island

Whether you’re planning a visit to Coronado for the Thanksgiving holiday or you’re a local looking to entertain company, here are my picks for a long weekend of fun and celebration on the Island.

  • Wednesday Evening: Do Some Local Wine Tasting at Zilaro Cellars.  Kick off the long weekend at Coronado’s new -and only! – winery tasting room and enjoy some savory sips of yummy, locally made wine. I couldn’t leave without a bottle of the delicious, bold 2010 Malbec and (I can’t believe I’m about to say this…) the 2010 Rose, which was unlike any other Rose I’ve tried…it was exceptional.  Mention Alisa’s 5 Favorites and try a glass of the Rose for only $5 .  Zilaro Cellars | 1113 Adella Ave. | www.zilarocellars.com
  • Friday:  Tour the Island.  Have some fun zipping around, learning about and seeing beautiful Coronado with a 2 hour tour on a futuristic Segway.  How fun is that?!  Segway of Coronado | (619) 694-7702 | 1050 B Ave. | www.segwayofcoronado.com | 2 hrs/$118
  • Friday Bonus: Shopping and Football.  Check out next week’s Alisa’s Five Favorite Black Friday Shopping Finds on Coronado and my prior post of my favorite Spots to Watch the Game on Coronado.
  • Friday Night: Ice Skating at the Hotel Del.  For a truly unique evening at the beach, whirl and twirl on the Del’s ice skating rink by the sea.  The famous hotel is decked out for the holidays with hundreds of thousands of sparkling white lights, Victorian Christmas decorations, and holiday music.  1500 Orange Ave. | (619) 435-1888 | times and rates at www.hoteldel.com/holidays
  • Saturday:  Day at the Beach.  Get the true So Cal beach experience at Coronado Surfing Association’s 31st Annual Jr. Longboard Contest starting at 7am at Shipwreck Beach (in front of the Shores).   Spend the day watching the competition, lounging in the sunshine, playing in the waves, tossing the frisbee or football, then party the night away at the awards ceremony on the sand with live music by West Coast Iron Works, tasty food, no host bar, and raffle.  Award Ceremony Party $20 | info at www.coronadosurfingassociation.com
  • Sunday: Enjoy the Bay.  Pile your family and friends into a Duffy Electric Boat and spend the afternoon cruising around San Diego Bay.  Bring along a picnic from Park Place Liquor  (they have fresh, amazing sandwiches! 1000 Park Place) and set out to see Coronado, the iconic blue bridge, downtown San Diego, and the USS Midway from a whole new perspective.  Seaforth Boat Rentals | 1715 Strand Way | (888) 834-2628 | www.seaforthboatrental.com |   2 hrs/$190

Have a fun and happy Thanksgiving weekend!
